It is Nineteen (19) days since the Senior Divisional Officer for Mezam placed a ban on the circulation of motorbikes in Bamenda III but no single day since the ban was placed has these bikes not seen on the streets of Nkwen. Was Mezam SDO's ban only on papers? Observers have questioned those who were to implement the ban if they were not informed about the order or the ban was placed without consulting hierarchy?
On January 13, 2022, the Senior Divisional Officer of Mezam, Simon Emile Mooh signed a release banning the circulation of motorcycles in the Bamenda III subdivision, one of the three subdivisions that make up Bamenda City in the North West Region of Cameroon. The release partly stated that any person or group of persons who contravene the order shall be punished by the provisions of the regulations in force.
The prefectural order No 009 PO/E 29/ALPAS prohibiting the circulation of motorbikes in the Bamenda III subdivision, Mezam Division, North West Region for fourteen (14) days renewable came on the hills of frequent attacks within the said subdivision with the use of motorbikes according to the Senior Administrator.
"On January 9, 2022, two (2) Criminals on motorcycles attacked Dreamland and MADIBA nightclubs using war weapons. Luckily enough nobody died but a worker was wounded and materials destroyed during the process", the SDO stated.
